Inquiry Learning using SUCCESS
At Weymouth Intermediate we have a developed a curriculum that best suits the needs of our students. Our 2 year program provides a wide range of experiences through all learning areas. The students participate in inquiry based learning that incorporates the key competencies, thinking habits and skills and values.
Each term in our 2 year cycle has a focus learning area, key competency, thinking pedagogy and values. Students are presented with a scenario and a school wide fertile inquiry question.
The inquiry process is structured using our SUCCESS inquiry model.
S = Set the scene. Students are immersed in the topic through many and varied experiences.
U = Uncover /unpack the question. Students form their own fertile questions on which to base their research.
C = Collect resources. All information and resources required are gathered to help answer their inquiry question.
C = Create and Record. Students analyse, evaluate, and organise their resources and
begin to create a presentation in the required format.
E = Edit and Examine. Checking, evaluating and proof reading to ensure accuracy and that set criteria has been followed.
S = Share and Present. Students share the knowledge gained with their peers. Peer and teacher evaluation takes place.
S = Self Reflect and Celebrate. Students reflect on the learning that has taken place and set goals for future learning.
Teaching and learning using our SUCCESS inquiry model enables our students to be equipped with the skills to become independent, critical thinkers and they are able to make judgements about their learning and to set further goals.
