Kia ora Te Whanau Pounamu o Te Manukura Maia.

Ko Io te Atua o ngaa Atua.  Tenei te mihi atu ki a koe Paa ngaa mihi kia koe mo te awhi ina kei te tiake ngaa rangatira mo apopo.  Nau te mana nau te honore o ngaa mea katoa.  Ngaa Mihi.

Just to let you know a little bit about my teaching philosophy.

My teaching philosophy is that every child deserves the right to belong somewhere.  I would like to believe that my whanau (children in my class) can feel safe to laugh, cry, learn and be heard with their unique voices.  To grow in maturity to know its alright to get it wrong and to work hard to get it right.  I want the best for any child who comes into our whanau.  For my children and I the best look like these three things.

He Mana Atua:  The spiritual side that comes from Io or any type of belief that you may have.

He Mana Whenua:  Our whakapapa and the stories that make family links strong in Maori.

He Mana Tangata:  The great talents that all human beings possess whether it be Singing, Reading etc.  Every person has a talent to offer.

This is my first blog to let you know what we are doing in Te Manukura Maia.  Last year the maori unit was with the Samoan Unit and we created a strong bond with Apolima.  It will still carry on this year as we work through the year.

The unit is now under the leadership of Whaea Dee and I recieve guidance from Whaea Hinewai.  I am still Head of the Bilingual Unit with Whaea Pauline who is Kai Arahi i Te Reo for the Mainstream classes.

We now have a Bilingual Class and a Maori Enrichment class that will bring strong progress towards young Maori achievement.  I look after the numeracy national standards in Room 5 and Room 6 and Whaea Hinewai will be looking after the literacy national standards for Room 5 and Room 6.

We will be working very hard to create a strong bond with Puutake Te Wahanga (James Cook High School) to prepare our young and upcoming leaders for college.  This relationship is to create a strong transistion from Te Manukura Maia to Puutake te Wahanga when our children move on.

Our classes are working very hard to prepare for the many events that we have been invited to perform.

With a strong Inquiry focus for Tuakiri (identity)  The Whanau will be starting from basics, going from Io to a pepeha.  This is a great journey for the children as we learn to identify ourselves and our whanau.

I look forward to meeting many of my children's parents and hope students enjoy the moment with me.  Please feel free to come and see me at school as I believe a strong connection with children and their parents make a strong learning foundation.

Thank you.
